Once there was a Tibetan resettlement project here, but now it is a Nepalese army post though it has no permanent inhabitants. Langsisa Ri Peak Climbing Altitude Profile

FAQs

Langsisa Ri is nestled deep in the Langtang Valley, within the Langtang National Park. It lies near the Tibetan border, north of Kyanjin Gompa, a sacred Buddhist village and popular trekking destination. The region is known for its dramatic glacial valleys, alpine pastures, and ancient monasteries, making it culturally rich as well as scenically outstanding.

Langsisa Ri is considered a technical peak that requires solid mountaineering skills. The climb involves:

  • Steep snow and ice slopes (up to 60 degrees in some sections)
  • Glacier crossings and crevasse zones
  • High ridges with fixed rope use

It’s not suitable for beginners. Prior experience in alpine climbing, including use of crampons, ice axes, ropes, and climbing at high altitudes, is essential.

The typical Langsisa Ri climbing expedition takes around 15 to 18 days, which includes:

  • Trekking from Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa
  • Multiple acclimatization and training days
  • Establishing base camp and high camp
  • The climb and descent (2–3 days)
  • A few contingency days for weather

The expedition is usually combined with the Langtang Valley trek, adding cultural and scenic value to the journey.

Yes. Langsisa Ri is not a trekking peak for first-time climbers. You should have:

  • Completed previous climbs over 5500 meters
  • Experience with roped glacier travel
  • Confidence in using ice axe, harness, crampons, and ascenders
  • A good understanding of mountain safety and altitude challenges

If you’ve climbed peaks like Island Peak or Lobuche East and are looking to step up, Langsisa Ri is an excellent next challenge.

The ideal seasons are:

  • Spring (April to early June): Stable weather, longer days, and warmer conditions.
  • Autumn (late September to November): Clear skies, low precipitation, and cooler but more stable conditions.

Climbing during monsoon or winter is generally not recommended due to snow accumulation, poor visibility, and avalanche risk.

The trip starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (around 7–8 hours). From there, you trek through Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and reach Kyanjin Gompa over several days. After proper acclimatization, you trek further into the high alpine terrain where Langsisa Base Camp is established at around 5000 meters.

You will need the following permits:

  • Langtang National Park Entry Permit
  • Langsisa Ri Climbing Permit (Group “A” peak under the Nepal Mountaineering Association - NMA)
  • TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System)

During the trek, you’ll stay in teahouses—simple guesthouses offering basic rooms and local meals.

During the climb, accommodation shifts to camping at base and high camps. You’ll sleep in tents and eat meals prepared by the expedition cook and crew.

Meals include rice, lentils, noodles, pasta, soup, and tea/coffee, with extra high-energy snacks during the climb.

Absolutely. Langsisa Ri’s altitude and rapid elevation gain make altitude sickness (AMS) a real risk. That’s why itineraries are designed with:

  • Rest and acclimatization days
  • Gradual ascent profiles
  • Oxygen and first-aid kits carried by guides

Your guide will monitor your health daily. Learning the symptoms (headache, dizziness, loss of appetite) and reporting them early is key to staying safe.

Training should start at least 3–4 months before the climb, focusing on:

  • Cardio workouts (running, swimming, cycling, hiking)
  • Strength training (especially legs and core)
  • Hiking with a loaded backpack
  • Altitude simulation, if possible

Climbers should be able to hike 6–8 hours a day over steep terrain while carrying a pack.

With a qualified climbing team and good weather, Langsisa Ri can be climbed safely. However, risks include:

  • Altitude sickness
  • Crevasses and avalanches
  • Weather shifts

Choosing an experienced, certified operator and listening to your guide’s instructions is critical. Safety gear and evacuation plans should always be in place.

Langsisa Ri offers a more remote and raw Himalayan experience than popular peaks. Reasons to choose it include:

  • Less commercialized than Island or Mera Peak
  • More technically engaging for climbers wanting to level up
  • Stunning alpine isolation and pristine glacial surroundings
  • Ideal for those looking for a personal challenge and true adventure
  • Opportunity to combine with the Langtang Valley cultural trek

If you're seeking a quiet but serious climb with unmatched Himalayan views, Langsisa Ri is an excellent—and often overlooked—choice.

Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition ensures you to provide a well planned itinerary for Langsisa Ri Peak climbing. An experienced and highly professional climbing guide will be assigned to each climbing member. All necessary logistics will be taken care from our side. However, we expect to maintain good health and physical condition as well as well good mental preparation from your side.
