Pachermo Peak Climbing

Pachermo Peak is an attractive snow peak lying south of Tashi Lapcha. It has a north-by- northwest ridge, which rises from the crevassed glacier astride the Tashi Lapcha. The face of the ridge forms a uniform slope broken by crevasse and seracs rising from the rocky lower buttresses above the Drolambau Glaciers in the west. The climbing of Mt. Pacharmo will involve scenic trek of Rolwaling valley.

Pachermo Peak Climbing Altitude Profile

FAQs

Pachermo is considered a moderate to technical trekking peak, and the difficulty largely depends on snow conditions, weather, and your experience level. The final section involves:

  • Glacier travel
  • Crevasse navigation
  • Snow slopes that can be steep (up to 45 degrees)
  • Possible use of fixed ropes

It’s best suited for climbers with some previous high-altitude or climbing experience, although experienced guides can assist beginners with strong fitness and motivation.

A full Pachermo Peak climbing expedition takes around 18 to 21 days, depending on the route and acclimatization schedule. The trek involves:

  • Reaching Rolwaling Valley via Dolakha and Simigaon
  • Trekking through remote villages like Beding and Na
  • Crossing Tashi Lapcha Pass
  • Climbing Pachermo and possibly descending into the Khumbu region (Thame, Namche, Lukla)

It’s a comprehensive journey through both wilderness and culture-rich regions.

While not an extreme technical climb, prior experience with ice axe, crampons, and fixed ropes is highly recommended. You should be familiar with:

  • Walking on snow and ice
  • Using a harness and rope
  • Glacier safety (crevasse awareness)
  • Spending nights in high camps above 5,000 meters

If you don’t have prior climbing experience, some agencies offer training days before the summit push at high camp or glacier base.

The best seasons are:

  • Spring (April to early June): Stable weather, blooming landscapes
  • Autumn (September to early November): Clear skies, dry trails, and crisp mountain views
  • Monsoon (June–August) brings heavy rain and landslides, while winter (late November–February) can be dangerously cold and snowy, especially over Tashi Lapcha.

You'll need the following:

  • Pachermo Peak Climbing Permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA)
  • Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit (GCAP)
  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit (if exiting through the Khumbu)
  • TIMS Card (for general trekking info and safety)

Your guiding company typically handles all permits as part of the package.

In the Rolwaling Valley, accommodation is basic teahouses or camping

Above Na village, it’s fully tent-based camping

During the climb and at high camp, you’ll sleep in mountain tents

A full expedition crew typically includes a cook, porters, and climbing guides, ensuring warm meals and comfortable (if basic) shelter even in remote settings.

Altitude sickness is a real concern, especially since you’ll spend multiple nights above 4000 meters and summit over 6200 meters. Symptoms include:

  • Headaches, nausea
  • Fatigue, shortness of breath
  • Insomnia

Your itinerary will include acclimatization days, and your guides are trained to detect and manage symptoms. Medications like Diamox can help, and descending is always an option if symptoms persist.

Pachermo demands excellent physical condition, with:

  • Cardiovascular strength for high-altitude trekking
  • Stamina to walk 6–8 hours daily
  • Capacity to carry a daypack and walk in snow or tough terrain

Training should begin at least 8 weeks in advance, including cardio (hiking, running, cycling), weight training, and ideally, multi-day hikes.

Teahouses (where available) serve basic meals: dal bhat, pasta, soup, eggs, chapati

During the camping section, the kitchen crew will prepare hot, nutritious meals like rice, lentils, potatoes, porridge, and tea

On the summit push, climbers rely on instant noodles, energy bars, soup, and hot drinks

It’s wise to carry personal snacks, hydration powders, and high-energy supplements for long days and high-altitude exertion.

The cost usually ranges from $2500 to $4500 USD, depending on:

  • Route (Rolwaling to Khumbu, or vice versa)
  • Services (full board, private guide, group expedition)
  • Group size (solo climbers cost more)

This typically includes permits, domestic transport, accommodation, climbing staff, food, and camping equipment. Personal gear, insurance, and tips are extra.

Pachermo offers a unique mix of high-altitude mountaineering and remote trekking. It’s less crowded than peaks like Island or Mera and takes you through:

  • Untouched Rolwaling Valley with deep cultural heritage
  • The dramatic Tashi Lapcha Pass
  • Epic views of Everest, Gauri Shankar, Melungtse, and more

If you’re seeking an adventurous, less-commercialized peak with alpine beauty, culture, and technical challenge, Pachermo is an outstanding choice.

Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition ensures you to provide a well planned itinerary for Pachermo Peak climbing. An experienced and highly professional climbing guide will be assigned to each climbing member. All necessary logistics will be taken care from our side. However, we expect to maintain good health and physical condition as well as well good mental preparation from your side.
