The Rolwaling valley trek is a strenuous yet adventurous trek that offers you a taste of wilderness adventure. This is normally a camping trek however some lodges and home-stay facilities are available. Having the skills to use ropes, harnesses, crampons and ice-axes is an advantage.

Rolwaling Valley is nestled between the Langtang range and the Everest range bounded by Rolwaling Himal ranges on the North. It is one of those remote destinations of Nepal, still untouched by modernity and lying close to the Tibetan border.

The Rolwaling Himal is a cluster of more than 50 peaks above 6000m. The Rolwaling Valley offers trekkers splendid views of Mt. Everest, Langtang, Jugal Himal and Mt. Gauri Shanker, Mt. Melungtse (7181 m), Mt. Dorje Lakpa and Mt. Tashi Lapcha. The valley has diverse landscapes comprising of pristine glaciers, high passes, alpine forests and snow fed lakes. It is the habitat of eagles, musk deer, mountain goat as well as the legendary snow leopard.

The Valley is also home to rich ethnic diversity including Tamang, Sherpa, Gurung and Brahmin communities. In the upper reaches you will be able to experience Buddhist culture and lifestyle and visit wonderful monasteries.

The trekking trail follows the course of Tamakoshi River and passes through the splendid Tsho-Rolpo Lake fed by glaciers. Multiple itineraries are available on this route including the choice to cross the Tashi Lapcha Pass (5755m), one of the highest passes in the Himalayas.

If you choose to cross Tashi Lapcha Pass, then you will have to descend to Everest region and fly out of Lukla. You will have the opportunity to visit the famous Khumbu Valley and climb Pcharmo Peak on the way. Subsequently you will be required to obtain peak permit compulsorily. But you can also choose to avoid the pass and return the same route without the need to take the permit.
