c) Trekking
Most Mardi Himal treks last 8 to 10 days, depending on your pace and whether you start from Kande, Phedi, or Landruk. The trek can be done faster, but a slower pace is better for acclimatization and enjoying the views. Many trekkers also include a side trip to Australian Camp or Dhampus to extend the experience.
This trek is considered moderate. It doesn’t involve any technical climbing, but there are steep uphill sections, especially between Low Camp and High Camp, and a few narrow ridgelines near the base camp. It’s suitable for fit beginners, solo travelers, and families with teens who are comfortable walking 5–6 hours a day. A basic level of fitness and good hiking shoes make a big difference.
The highest point of the trek is Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500 m.). You’ll usually reach it as a day hike from High Camp, leaving early in the morning to catch sunrise views and return by lunch. The views from base camp are breathtaking, with towering snow peaks, glaciers, and dramatic cliffs in every direction.
You’ll be treated to constantly changing scenery: terraced fields, lush forests, mossy jungles, open ridgelines, and panoramic views of Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and even Dhaulagiri on clear days. At High Camp and above, the views become dramatically alpine, with clouds drifting beneath the peaks and star-filled skies at night.
