Dudhkunda Trail Trek

Dudhkunda Trail is one of the remote, under-crowded, wilderness trek in the popular Everest region. Dudhkunda Lake lies in the lap of Numbur Himal in Solukhumbu district.

The trek takes you to the pristine and sacred Dudhkunda Lake located at the altitude of 4560m. The Dudhkunda Lake is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva. Devotees believe that visiting the lake absolve them from all their sins and bless childless families with children. The lake is visited by devotees during the festival of Janai Purnima which falls in the month of August. 

The Dudhkunda trail trek passes beautiful Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries, lush forests inhabited by a variety of wildlife. You willl have the opportunity to appreciate Sherpa culture and their hospitality, and learn about Buddhism in Thuptenchholing monastery, Chewang Monastery etc. 

Dhudhkunda trek can be done during Spring, Fall and Winter and the trail is rated easy to moderate.

Take a short morning flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu. Then beging trek from Phaplu to Salleri which lasts for about four hours. Salleri is popular for local market as well as local monasteries such as the Chewang monastery. Stay overnight in camp.

The trek starts right after breakfast. Today on the trekking trail you will an opportunity to observe Sherpa culture and visit Buddhist monasteries. Junbesi is one of the most beautiful Sherpa villages in the lower Solukhumbu region. It is rich in its astonishing landscapes, cultural wealth and the hospitable Sherpa people. On a clear day you can see Mt. Everest, Makalu, and Chamalang from here. Stay overnight in camp.

The trail today offers plenty of wildlife and vegetation. You will visit Thuptenchholing monastery founded by Tashi Rimpoche and surrounded by an aroma of pines, natural beauty, and a variety of flora. More than 500 monks and nuns reside in the monastery. Stay overnight in camp.

Morning visit to Shengeephuk cave with its mysterious stone prints. You walk through alpine forests and lush green vegetation. Occasionally you will have close-up views of silver peak mountains. Stay overnight in camp.

Today you will reach Lake Dudhkunda. The trail ascends all the way to the lake. During August the lake is visited by pilgrims as part of Janai Purnima ceremony. The lake attracts both resident and migratory  birds during the rainy season. Stay overnight in camp.

Below is a list of equipment and clothing required for trekking. The necessity of these items depends on the type, altitude, timing and destination of trekking. Appropriate trekking gears are not only required for the comfort/pleasure of your trek but also to improve safety factor.  Please have a look over these items in order to fully prepare and thoroughly enjoy the trekking.
