Gosaikunda is one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations in Nepal. Situated at an altitude of 4380m in Rasuwa district, the lake is regarded as the abode of Lord Shiva and Parbati by Hindus and of Guru Rimpoche by the Buddhists.
Gosainkunda is a high altitude freshwater lake and is an important point along the famous Langtang trekking trail. For trekkers Gosainkunda is a perfect spot to witness panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, including Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal, and Langshisa Ri.
Devotees gather here in large numbers on the full moon night of August to pay their respects to their respective gods. The march of local Tamang Shamans while dancing to the beat of traditional drums is a spectacle you don't to miss.
The holy lake is at a distance of two days trek from Dhunche. Trekkers will have to cross Laurebinayak and Tharepati Passes along the way, trek through beautiful rhododendron and oak forests of Langtang National Park and visit several beautiful Buddhist sites including Sing Gompa.
Following breakfast, you will drive to Sundarijal, your trek start point. The stone laid trail enters at the Shivpuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve and ascends to Mulkharka, a Tamang settlement. The route gradually descends through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisopani (2300m.). Stay overnight at a lodge or camp.
The trail continues to drop from Chisopani on a good level trail that crosses green meadows and fields. You will now descend through Pati Bhanjyang till Gul Bhanjyang. The trail climbs the ridge from Gul Bhanjyang to a pass at 2620m then goes downhill to Kutumsang at 2470m atop a ridge. Stay overnight at a lodge or camp.
The trek continues north up the Yurin Danda ridge and affords beautiful views of the moutain peaks. The trail climbs above Kutumsang on a steep, eroded trail mostly through fir and rhododendron forest where there are no permanent settlements. The trail ultimately descends to Magen Goth. Stay overnight at a lodge or camp.
You wil continue to climb, steeply at first then more gradually, passing through forest, meadows and streams. You will reach Tharepati presently which consists of a few cowsheds and lodges. From the top of this famous ridge the trail ascends through the forest, climbing in and out of ravines, with towering cliffs above. Stay overnight stay at a lodge or camp.
Today the trail ascends through the meadow of bushes and rhododendron trees to Phedi (3500m.). The trail then goes along side a stream through alpine trees. The trail turns a bit rough and crosses moraines and rock cairns. Stay overnight at lodge or camp
There are several small stone shelters for pilgrimage on the north-western side of the lake. Locals come here to worship and bathe in the lake during the full moon festival in August. You will witness some black and white stones in the lake. Stay overnight at a lodge or camp.
The trail gently ascends for a short while through chortens and a Shiva temple. After this we descend to Laure Binayak and to Sing Gompa. The Gompa, which houses a statue of the Green Tara, is one of the famous attractions for trekkers. You will come across a small cheese factory and several lodges. The trail then leads us through dense forest till we reach Chandanbari. Stay overnight att a lodge or camp.
You trek along a gradual descending path. On the way you walk through several forests and villages as well. Overnight stay at a lodge or camp.
After an early morning breakfast, drive from Dhunche to Kathmandu by bus. Enjoy the ride by green hills, rivers and villages.
