Shiva Ratri

Shiva Ratri

Overview And Highlights

Shiva Ratri is one of the most pious Hindus festivals. The festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is observed every year during the month of February-March. On this day, Pashupatinath, the most important Hindu temple, is filled with visitors from far and wide. Thousands of pilgrims, majority of them from India, make the pilgrimage to Pashupatinath to pay homage to Lord Shiva, the ultimate god of the Hindus. During this festival, Sadhus and Jogis stay vigil and offer their prayers by singing hymns to Lord Shiva. It is also an occasion for devotees of Lord Shiva to taste marihuana and sweet laddoos, small colorful balls of flour and sugar. The country comes alive with bonfires at every corner as wood and charcoal are burnt late into the night. Nepal Environmental Treks organizes special tours on this day for tourists. With our experienced tour guides, you will be able to visit the temple of Pashupatinath, interact with sadhus and visitors, learn and experience the cultural tradition and might as well taste marihuana.
