The Dhudkunda Khaling Trek takes you through dense forests of rhododendron and experience a variety of wildlife combined with cultures of Rai community. Dudhkunda literally means ‘milky lake’ and is regarded a sacred lake. Dudhkunda lake (4,560m) is in the lap of Mt. Numbur and is quickly becoming a new popular trekking destination in Everest region. During full moon in August a weeklong celebration is held here participated by pilgrims and Jhankris (Shamans). It is believed that taking a dip in its holy waters will fulfill one’s wishes.
The trail offers exclusive interaction with the unique Khaling Rais of this area. They have their own language and cultural practices such as the Bhume dance, Chandi dance and Naghi Puja. The Khaling Rai believes that in order to continue human existence, it is necessary to worship their ancestors and their deity, earth.

Nungthala is a tourist centre where tourist facility lodges and tea shops are available. You walk through Khaling Rai settlement on the way to Thulo Thunga. Khaling Rais have their own language and practice both joint and nuclear family ties. Some of their important rituals are the Bhume dance, the Chandi dance and the Naghi puja.
