FAQs

The Annapurna Panorama Trek is a short and scenic trek in the lower Annapurna region of Nepal, popular for its panoramic Himalayan views, charming villages, and lush rhododendron forests.

Often called the Ghorepani-Poon Hill trek, the highlight of this route is a sunrise hike to Poon Hill (3,210 meters), where you’ll witness a jaw-dropping panorama of peaks including Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli.

The trek combines cultural experiences in Gurung and Magar villages with manageable walking days, making it ideal for all age groups and fitness levels.

The trek typically takes 6 to 10 days, depending on your starting point and pace.

This trek is highly customizable. You can start from different trailheads (e.g., Ulleri, Hile, or Ghandruk), and you can extend or shorten the trip as needed.

The highest point of the Annapurna Panorama Trek is Poon Hill, located at 3,232 meters
Despite not being very high by Himalayan standards, it offers one of the most stunning 360-degree mountain views you can get without venturing into high altitude territory. It's especially famous for the sunrise view, where golden light paints the snowcapped peaks.

The Annapurna Panorama Trek is considered easy to moderate in difficulty. It doesn't require high-altitude acclimatization or technical skills. However, the trail includes many stone steps, particularly the ascent from Tikhedhunga to Ulleri (around 3,000 steps!).

Trekkers should be reasonably fit and comfortable with 4–6 hours of walking per day. It’s a great introductory trek for first-timers, families with children, or older travelers looking for a rewarding challenge.

The best times are:

Autumn (September to November): Clear skies, great visibility, moderate temperatures

Spring (March to May): Blooming rhododendrons and pleasant weather
In spring, the forests around Ghorepani and Tadapani are filled with blooming rhododendrons, Nepal’s national flower — an unforgettable sight.

Winter (December to February) is also possible and less crowded, but mornings are cold and some trails may be slippery with snow. Monsoon (June to August) brings heavy rain, leeches, and poor views — generally not recommended.

This trek offers a rich mix of natural beauty and cultural charm. You'll pass through:

Terraced rice fields, waterfalls, and dense oak and rhododendron forests

Traditional villages inhabited by the Gurung and Magar ethnic groups

Close-up views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges

You’ll also enjoy cozy teahouse hospitality and witness the local lifestyle, including farming practices, Buddhist shrines, and warm, welcoming communities.

You’ll need two permits:

ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) – NPR 3,000 (~$25 USD)

TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System) – NPR 2,000 (~$17 USD)

Both can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara, or through a registered trekking agency.

Note: As of 2023, hiring a licensed guide is mandatory for all trekkers in the Annapurna region.

Yes — under the current rules, a licensed guide is required.

Even if it weren’t mandatory, a guide is helpful in many ways:

- Navigating the trail and managing logistics

- Sharing insights on local culture and nature

- Helping in emergencies or unexpected situations

A porter is optional, but if you prefer to walk light and enjoy the trek more comfortably, it’s a great idea. Porters typically carry up to 15–20kg of your gear.

You'll stay in teahouses — simple lodges run by local families. These offer:

Twin-bed rooms with shared bathrooms (sometimes private rooms available)

Basic bedding (carry a sleeping bag for comfort and warmth)

Communal dining halls with a stove for warmth

Food is freshly prepared, and the menus include:

Dal Bhat (rice, lentils, curry) — most nutritious and filling

Pancakes, eggs, porridge, noodles, pasta, momos

Hot drinks like ginger tea and masala chai

Meals and lodging are affordable, and food quality is quite good for a remote trek.

No — the highest altitude (Poon Hill at 3,232m) is well below the danger zone for altitude sickness (usually above 3,500m).
Most people will feel perfectly fine, though some may experience mild shortness of breath on steep climbs. Staying hydrated, taking breaks, and ascending at a comfortable pace helps a lot.

Since the trek is relatively short and stays at lower elevations, you can pack light. Essentials include:

- Layered clothing (T-shirt, fleece, wind/waterproof jacket)

- Comfortable hiking boots or shoes

- Warm hat, gloves, sun hat

- Sleeping bag (recommended for warmth at night)

- Small daypack, water bottles or hydration system

- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and personal first-aid kit

- Trekking poles and rain gear are also helpful, especially during shoulder seasons.

Yes, mobile signal is available in most villages (especially if using NTC or NCELL SIM cards).
Many teahouses also offer Wi-Fi for a small fee, although the connection can be slow or unreliable, especially in Ghorepani and Tadapani. It’s best to treat this trek as a partial digital detox — enjoy the views instead!

Absolutely! The Annapurna Panorama Trek is perfect for families, first-time trekkers, and older travelers.
It avoids the high altitudes and long trekking days of other Himalayan treks while still offering world-class mountain views and a memorable cultural experience. Just make sure to walk at a comfortable pace, take breaks, and stay well hydrated.

Yes! It connects well with several other treks. Your may put your query via Inquiry Form or Email us at envtrek@gmail.com
