Max Altitude: 5545 m.

Mode of travel: Flight

Grade: Moderate

Everest Base Camp trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal. It epitomizes by far the finest trekking experience in the Himalayas, whose premier objective is to see Mt. Everest, the world’s highest mountain at 8848m, along with Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Nuptse among others.

Add to that, the unique and colorful Sherpa culture, the visit to 500 year old Thyangboche Monastery, the pristine wilderness of Sagarmatha National Park and the trek to Kalapatthar at an altitude of 5643m to see the majestic sunrise over Everest.

Everest Base Camp trek begins in Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region, and ends with a challenging walk to Everest Base Camp (5364m). Our trail passes through Sherpa villages with well cultivated fields and small hamlets, interspersed with magnificent forests of rhododendron, magnolia and giant firs. We will have a fascinating experience of watching the hustle and bustle of Namche Bazaar- famously called the capital of Sherpas- and a touch of modernity it creates. A few hours walk from Namche would bring us to Thyanboche Monastery, an incredible spiritual center in the heart of Himalayas.

The ascend to the summit of Kalapathar (5643m) rewards with brilliant views of Mount Everest and a breathtaking panorama of the world's highest mountains before returning to Pheriche and then back to Kathmandu.

The EBC Trek can be organized at varying times of the year and for different duration. As such, this 14-day itinerary is the most appropriate one since it has been designed keeping in mind the issue of acclimatization and attractions.

Father, Son to EBC

From hotel accommodations in Kathmandu, to extra gear for trek, great guide and porter, to all arrangements on the trail, Environmental Trekking had it all done for us. They were helpful with emails leading up to the trip, and everything was laid out for us. Our guide Hari couldn't of been any better. He was a veteran guide that took care of us from start to finish which led to a trip of a lifetime for my father and I. He got us right up to Everest base camp, always concerned for our well being. We could not of had better service between Nava in Kathmandu, and Hari and our porter on the trail. We highly recommend Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition. A perfect trip with a lifetime of great memories, helped by their great service! Thank you

Awesome trip to EBC!

We just returned back from Nepal and had an excellent time. Nepal Environmental Treks too care of everything for us- they picked us up from the airport, arranged our flights, hotel, accommodation, and meals. Our guide Dinesh was fantastic- he had eyes like a hawk and was constantly pointing out wild rams and birds, while at the same time dazzling us with facts and figures. Both our guide and Nepal Environmental Trek went above and beyond- including taking us shopping around Kathmamdu and helping us get cash when the ATM didn't work. I highly recommend Nepal Environmental Trek.

EBC Trek with Hari and Leela

The experience was super and once in a lifetime. The group was made up of 10 men and 1 woman (me). 8 of us have summited Mount Kilimanjaro in 2013 together so we have been planning this trip for over a year. We were in regular contact with Nava and he was super helpful in keeping us updated especially since the earthquake back in April. Of course we had concerns to continue with the planned trek for October 2015 but since Nava kept us informed of the situation in Nepal we felt it was safe to continue with the planned trip. The age of the group ranges from 32 to 65! All 11 of us made it to EBC and 6 of us made it to Kala Patthar. Key is to go slow to give your body the best chance to acclimatize. Of course all of us are avid hikers and have been staying fit to prepare. We had a great time taking in the Himalayas but we were getting tired of the same food. We shortened our trek from Lukla to EBC and Kalapatthar and back to Lukla to 11 days. We were originally scheduled for a 14 day hike but we requested our guide to help make changes to our flight back to Kathmandu so we can come down sooner. Hari and the porters were able to make the adjustments to shorten our trek and we of course provided extra tips for the effort.

One side note, most of us had delays to our flight into Kathmandu from USA. Nava was able to accommodate all of us to start the trek together. He rebooked the flights to Lukla for all 11 of us and helped track down what happened to our lost luggage. :)

Amazing bonding experience with a view of the Himalayas!

We were unsure about our trekking plans right up to arriving in Kathmandu mainly because of our fitness level, the weather and the severe kerosene and gas shortage that Nepal was facing arising from its political situation. But our family of five with three teenagers were in good hands as soon as we met Nava who owns and runs Nepal Environmental Treks & Expedition when we arrived in Kathmandu. His deep knowledge, experience and even patience was a tremendous help in planning our trip knowing we had come from a busy life with limited time for preparation. He made sure we had a great support team and indeed we did! Leading up for the trek was our experienced, able, knowledgeable guide Ratna, who's regular backyard is the ECB. He was able to answer all of our questions from Nepal's history, landscape and its people to 'how much longer' and 'how hard will today be' :) He was good in reacting to our needs on a daily basis including the various changes in our trekking plans! Assisting us was two excellent and great spirited porters, Chaitee and BJay. Such kind and open souls, we could not have asked for better help. They were attentive, intuitive and ready to respond to our needs and great support. It was a great journey for the family, memorable for the time the family got to spend together going through some challenging day and made more so because of the folks at Nepal Environmental Treks. The food was also a joy. We would say Nepal is a must and don't worry too much about the negative news that may come out from the country sometimes. Do go.We will certainly be back and no doubt who will be our first choice!
