Bangladeshi airline US-Bangla crash landed at Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu killing at least 49 people and injuring 22

March 13, 2018

We remain shocked and deeply moved by the tragic airline accident that took place on 12 March 2018 involving a Bangladeshi airline US-Bangla that crash landed at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu killing at least 49 people and injuring 22. The ill-fated plane- flight BS211- was flying from Dhaka to Kathmandu.

This is perhaps the biggest air accident to have taken place within the premises of Tribhuvan International Airport in the long history of Nepali aviation.

The passengers- 71 in all including 4 crews- consisted of Nepali medical students, Nepali travel agents and tourists from Bangaldesh, Maldives and China. As many as 23 of those dead were Nepalese.

Fortunately former Senior Vice President of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Keshav Pandey was among the 22 passengers who survived the accident.

Let me take this moment to offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives in the accident. I also wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.
