A massive landslide occurred in Jure village of Sindhupalchowk district causing a heavy loss of lives and property. At least 33 people have been confirmed dead and about 150 are still missing. The landslide buried about 40 houses. Security forces have been launching relentless search efforts to retrieve the bodies of those missing.
The landslide triggered an unprecedented rise in the level of water in Sunkoshi, one of the major rivers of Nepal, while some sections of the river were dammed obstructing the flow of water and creating lake out of what was once a running river.
