Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) organized a series of program to celebrate 34th TAAN Day and 5th International Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) Day.
The celebration began with a morning procession from Tridevi Marg, Thamel. The procession had participation of government officials, representatives of different travel trade associations, tourism enterprises, TAAN executive members, member agencies and staffers. The procession passed through Durbar Marg and Ghantaghar before concluding at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
TAAN also organized a blood donation program on the day. Thirty-six persons, including TAAN executive members, member agencies and TAAN staffers, donated blood during the program.
In the afternoon, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta Bahadur Bogati launched two new trekking trails – Lumbasumba (Kanchanjunga-Makalu) in eastern Nepal and Lower Manslu in western Nepal. Minister Bogati also unveiled documentaries, maps and other promotional collaterals of both the routes.
Similarly, TAAN gave away TAAN Journalism Award jointly to Narayan Shrestha of Sajha Sawal and Shanta Nepali of Tarai TV. Minister Bogati handed over the awards on behalf of TAAN. Bogati also handed over TAAN Dr Harka Gurung Award jointly to conservationist Hem Sagar Baral and Dr Shastra Dutta Pant. Both the awards carry a purse of Rs 50,000 and letters of appreciation. Similarly, TAAN Pasang Lhamu Award was handed over to Chhuring Sherpa. The award carries a purse of Rs 25,000 plus an appreciation letter.
