Tsum Valley Trek (20 Days)

Tsum Valley trek offers a close observation of Tibetan Buddhist customs & traditions practiced and preserved in Tsum Valley. Known as the hidden valley, Tsum Valley was only opened for trekking in 2008.

Tsum comes from the Tibetan word ‘Tsombo’ which means vivid. Traditionally, Tsum Valley was a culturally distinct geographical area called ‘Tsum Tso Chucksums’ which means 13 provinces ruled as a single territory. Ngula Dhojhyang Pass at 5093m is the highest point reached during this trek.

Tsum Valley offers a majestic scenery with a backdrop of the Ganesh Himal and Sringi Himal among others. The local people are mostly of Tibetan origin and speak unique dialect. Trails are strewn with artistic Chortens and lined with Mani walls made of thousands of stone slabs carved with drawings of deities and inscribed with prayers. The visit to famous Kyimu Lung, a center of learning and meditation, is part of the attraction of this trek.

The Tsum Valley has long history of Buddhism. The Buddhist saint Milarepa is believed to have meditated in the caves of these mountains. Rachen Gumba and Mu Gumba are some of the important monasteries in the region. The valley is also uniquely rich in wildlife, such as Himalayan Thar and Blue Sheep.

Our trek around Manaslu, the Tsum Valley and Nar-Phu Vally

Thanks to all of you for making our trek around Manaslu, the Tsum Valley and Nar - Phu Valley so memorable. To Nava for your professionalism and help with giving us itinerary we wanted and making the arrangements- you made our lives easier. To all our porters for their hard work and willingness to walk the extra hour so we could carry where we wanted. To Ram, our Manaslu add Nar-Phu porter for carrying both our heavy packs over 2 high passes while we were panic and sweating with our tiny light weight bages. And especially to Ram, who looked after us so well for 29 days that we feel like we have made a really good friend Ram, you were the perfect guide for us- thanks for teaching us “call break”, for your good humour, for always finding us a bed for the night (even when it seemed impossible) and for asking extra chilli with our Dal Bhat. You gave us lots of great idea for the next trek so we will be sure to look you up next time we will in Nepal.

Thanks again to everyone at Nepal Environmental Trekking for making this trip a really memorable one!
